Are You Afraid of Color?

It’s amazing to me how many people — bright and cheerful themselves — are afraid to let their vibrant personalities take up residence in their homes.  Instead of showing their true colors, they’ve resigned themselves to white or beige walls blending into tepid, muted upholstery and quiet accessories.  Yawn.  Oh sure, safe.  But, at the risk of offending beige-lovers everywhere, I’m going to just say it.  Boring, boring, boring.

Wait!  I know what you’re thinking.  Neutral colors in a home are better for resale.  Well, I think that’s debatable but let’s just for a moment say that’s true.  Is your house on the market?  What about next week?  On the market then?  Hmmm. next month?  If the answer is no, then why are you living in a house that’s not truly yours?  Why decorate your home for someone else — especially someone you don’t even know?

For whatever reason, if you happen to be one of the many who shy away from the joy of color in your home, I’ve got a crash color course for you.  It’s Susan Sergent.  The first time I walked into Susan’s store in Boston, I almost fainted.  Seriously.  The cheerful, fun, colorful atmosphere just took my breath away.  Since then, I’ve become a big fan of her store, her website and her fabulous books.

Here’s a picture from her website of her Vermont store just to give you an idea of how bold and unafraid she is when it comes to color. Visit Susan’s website not only for inspiration but also a color education as she’s committed to helping people learn how to incorporate color into their lives.  You’re going to love it!

till next time,

Jennifer
